Mechanical movements and  horizontal and vertical pins of the automatic rebar bender require position control with a repeatability of 0.2 mm.
The potentiometric position sensor “PC” allows to control of the position of the movements of the stirrup bending machine with repeatability of linear positioning 0,1mm and the detection of the position in real time after a restart without reset.

The process

A stirrup bender automatically unwinds a steel reel and then straighten the steel rod using rotating pins.

The rod is then be bent as required using a mechanical finger that shapes it around a fixed pin. Finally, the workpiece is cut at one end and unloaded.

The final shaped product can be used for the construction of reinforced concrete structures, walls or load bearing pillars etc.

The challenge

  • The mechanical movements as well as the horizontal and vertical pins of the stirrup bender require the position control with a repeatability of 0.2 mm.
  • In the event of a machine restart, the position transducers should immediately provide the real position with no need of reset.
  • According to size and complexity of the machine, number of stirring pins can vary from 4 to 8 per machine.
  • Considering different size and technical characteristics of the machines, the position measurement and control should be addressed with a cost-effective solution while ensuring it meets the performance parameters.
